The feeling of mixing a great show is indescribable, and when you get paid to do it every day it never gets old. From the nerves, before the lights go down and the show starts, to the feeling of accomplishment when the stage darkens again at the end.
It’s an amazing feeling but if it goes wrong it can seem like an eternity of suffering. It takes years of experience and learning to avoid those pitfalls, but I have a shortcut for you.
Do you want to soldier on through years of bad gigs, low pay and anxiety, or do you want to take the shortcut?
I'm Andrew Graham
I work as a live sound engineer
I work on everything from private events with just 20 people to huge conferences with thousands of attendees.
I work with bands from intimate basement shows all the way up to big-name artists in huge arenas.
I work from building the PA system and connecting all the hardware, to having my hands on the faders mixing the event and everything in between.
I taught at a university for a year so I know it can be confusing to learn sound in a classroom. I also know that you don’t need a college degree to mix great shows.

I also know that you don’t need a college degree to mix great shows.
I made the youtube channel Offshore Audio to teach beginner sound engineers how to mix better shows.
I ended up making videos on just about every part of live sound.
I developed a talent for making complex topics seem simple.
Just take a look at my commets section

When you go to mix a show are you 100% certain that it’s going to go great?

Or do you have some uncertainty about some parts of the process?
Are you hoping that the mixer will just be left set up from the last time?
Are you counting on the fact that someone else has connected the stage box, or rigged up the speaker system?
In the past, when I turned up to mix a gig I simply hoped that the show would sound good enough for me to get out alive.
Some of my earliest live sound memories are the anxiety when I arrived at the venue and found out that the last engineer had changed the graphic EQ.
Enroll NowDon't live my nightmare
If someone had disconnected the speakers from the stage box or worse yet, disconnected the stage box itself, well, that was a recipe for disaster.
I loved it when a show was going well but so much of my process was left up to chance.
I had no confidence in my skills as a sound engineer but I saw the confidence and the ease that the others around me had.
I knew that if I knew what they knew I could look forward to work, and mix a great show every time.
Over years I made a million mistakes and asked a thousand questions.
Slowly I pieced together the information and the experience that I needed to feel confident when I went to mix a show.
I know how to connect any stage box to any mixer, and I know how to hook up any PA to the amplifiers and the mixer.
I know how to find problems and I know how to find solutions, what’s more, it’s fun.
Connecting stage boxes and routing mixers is just the first step towards that feeling of mixing a great show.

A process you can follow
I developed a process that I could follow every time I walked into a new venue. It took me years but it doesn’t need to take you years, and it shouldn’t. That’s why I created Unlock Live Sound.
